NORWEGIAN drilling services company Smedvig has accused US super major ExxonMobil of a deliberate campaign of misinformation ahead of its termination of a contract in October 1997 to operate the Balder oilfield production ship in Norway's offshore sector. Smedvig and ExxonMobil are currently slugging it out in what may become Norway's longest and most expensive court battle. Six months after ExxonMobil cancelled the Balder deal, Smedvig filed a breach of contract suit totalling some $300 million.
