The Malaysian unit of France’s Technip is understood to have started studies late last month with the aim of wrapping up work by the end of this year.
Technip was awarded the contract after beating off competition from three other engineering outfits — Ranhill WorleyParsons, MMC Oil & Gas Engineering and possibly Aker Solutions.
The contract involves maturing a development concept for a proposed water-alternating-gas (WAG) recovery process, using a new gas compression or utilities platform that will be bridge-linked to the existing Guntong A central processing platform.
