The company has been working on joint geotechnical studies for more than a year, aiming to identify leads and prospects in an area of the Gulf of Paria that has produced close to 200 million barrels since oil was first discovered there in 1955.
The additional acreage is aimed at unearthing undiscovered traps and taking advantage of synergies offered by existing infrastructure.
