A former ExxonMobil executive hoping to become president of commodities-rich Democratic Republic of Congo has accused the government of shutting down internet access in key cities in an attempt to conceal his “overwhelming victory”.
Large parts of the vast African nation went offline a day after the 30 December poll, in which counting is under way and provisional results are expected on 6 January.
