The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (Ferc) has reached a bipartisan agreement on a framework to advance a queue of a dozen proposed US liquefied natural gas projects, a decision that also solved an impasse over how to treat greenhouse gas emissions at the developments, writes Kathrine Schmidt.

The first project approved under the new framework was Venture Global's Calcasieu Pass facility in the US state of Louisiana, which was granted approval last week and will be the first to apply "a new approach for consideration of direct greenhouse gas emissions from LNG facilities".
