Four links will extend under channels in the Bight of Benin and two in the river sections. The project will take 14 months to complete, said Wolfgang Giebel, head of operations at Siemens. Each cable will contain 26 fibres able to carry 7860 channels simultaneously.
Fibre optics for Nigeria
SIEMENS has won a $125 million contract to lay more than 800 kilometres of fibre-optic cable through the south-eastern oil producing areas of Nigeria's Niger Delta. Cables will run along the coast below the seabed connecting Lagos to Port Harcourt.
