The city at the heart of the Canadian oil sands was looking vastly different midweek after an out-of-control forest fire raged through Fort McMurray, Alberta, destroying neighbourhoods and forcing the evacuation of more than 80,000 residents.
Oil sands production facilities were not directly affected by the fire, but operators either reduced or suspended output to ensure on-site workers could prepare to evacuate their homes.
