The UK has received the first ever shipment of US shale gas at a site in Scotland in the final step of a long-awaited $2 billion investment for Swiss chemicals giant Ineos.

The JS Ineos Insight made its way from the Marcus Hook terminal near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the Grangemouth site, near Edinburgh.

The gas tanker, carrying 27,500 cubic metres of ethane from US Marcellus shale fields, is one of eight specially designed so-called Dragon class ships that will form a fleet of the world’s largest ethane capable carriers, Ineos claimed.
