Environmental group Friends of the Earth (FoE) has secured approval from authorities in Scotland to intervene in a legal challenge being made by shale player Ineos against the Scottish government’s fracking ban, writes Anamaria Deduleasa.

On 9 January this year, chemicals major Ineos and its junior partner Reach called for a judicial review of the devolved Scottish government’s decision in October 2017 not to support shale development in the country.

Ineos said at the time that investments made to date in Scotland have been “rendered worthless” by the decision to introduce a new policy of “no support” for the nascent shale sector.
