Effective from 15 May, the action followed notice of production deferments after a leak was reported along the route of the Eastern Gas Gathering System near Awoba. The leak was affecting about 1.5 billion cubic feet of gas per day, 50% of normal throughput.
The reason for such a large deferment is the need on safety grounds to shut down the Gbaran Ubie gas processing complex, currently under expansion, and the Soku gas fields near Abonema in the creeks near Port Harcourt, which account for 40% of NLNG gas feed.
