Bo, who is also a vice president of PetroChina, made his last public appearance on 8 April in Beijing at a meeting hosted by PetroChina chairman Zhou Jiping with Shell's new chief executive Ben van Beurden.
PetroChina sent a statement to Shanghai Stock Exchange on 16 May, confirming Bo's resignation as company vice president effective April 26, but said he left his post due to a change in job role.
