Four villagers were reportedly beheaded last week in Cabo Delgado province in northern Mozambique, bringing the total number killed in the province since October 2017 to more than 170 people, writes Iain Esau.

Many incidents have been blamed on a group called Ahlu Sunnah Wa-Jama (known locally as al-Shabaab) which has links to Islamist groups in Tanzania, Somalia and Kenya.
