Bids for the platform with a topsides weighing 17,000 tonnes have been submitted by South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries, US giant J Ray McDermott, Singapore's SMOE, and Malaysia's Ramunia Fabricator.
Surprise absentees from the bid list include South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries and Malaysian big guns Malaysia Marine&Heavy Engineering (formerly Malaysia Shipyard&Engineering) and Sime Darby Engineering.
Ramunia, a wholly-owned subsidiaryof publicly listed Ramunia Holdings, does not have the same credentials as its overseas rivals for building major production platforms, but it has plenty of ambition, and recently paid US$36.5
