The resurgent wildfire in northern Alberta grew 20% overnight on Tuesday due to strong winds that pushed the blaze eastward toward Saskatchewan.
The massive Fort McMurray fire ballooned from 355,000 hectares the previous day to 423,000 hectares on Wednesday, but was moving back into areas that had already been burned.
Officials were optimistic that rain and cooler temperatures in the coming days would aid firefighting efforts.
