"This apparently caused the crane boom from the Ocean Star to fall on to the Jerry Picton, ultimately sinking the vessel," the Coast Guard said on 20 August.
The Coast Guard hustled to contain about 1800 gallons of diesel fuel and 100 gallons of crude oil on board the Picton. Thankfully, no injuries were sustained.
Wow! So one of the three cranes from Diamond Offshore's deep-water semi-submersible rig Ocean Star collapsed and sank an uninspected towing vessel.
