Budgeted at $1.4 million, the Seagas joint industry project (JIP) is led by a teaming of gas processing and conversion specialist Foster Wheeler of the UK and shipbuilder Izar of Spain. Also on board are classification society DNV and FPSO operator Bluewater, not least for its expertise in mooring systems. Naturally the doors are open for further participants.
As there are only two large-scale land-based GTL plants in operation worldwide -- Sasol/Mossgas in South Africa, and Shell's Bintulu in Malaysia (30,000 and 12,500 barrels per day respectively) -- "the concept of a floating GTL plant may appear rather premature", notes the Seagas team.
