AAF was forced to stop production in 2003 when gas supplies were suspended because of security concerns in the province. The fertiliser plant, which was set up in 1979, employs 800 staff. Redundancy terms are being determined.
Despite the shortfall in gas production, which has also left Indonesia looking for additional LNG to meet its Arun contracts, Jakarta says it will try to ensure there are sufficient volumes available as feedstock for the nearby Pupuk Iskandar Muda (PIM) fertiliser project.
