Alexey Mastepanov, councillor of the Gazprom board's deputy chairman, said during an industry gathering in Beijing last week that the Russian gas monopoly wants a price higher than CNPC accepts.

Gazprom and CNPC have signed agreements covering up to 68 billion cubic metres of gas per annum from Russia to be delivered to China after 2010.

A CNPC official said talks over the price are getting nowhere and he is becoming increasingly frustrated.
