Russia's Gazprom remains optimistic about bringing on line the South Kirinsky project off Sakhalin Island, despite lacking access to international contractors capable of supplying subsea equipment because of US and European sanctions, writes Vladimir Afanasiev.

Speaking in St Petersburg, Gazprom deputy executive chairman Vitaly Markelov said the company intends to start production from South Kirinsky in 2023.
