Industry sources in Moscow said the application is part of Gazprom’s increased focus on Turkey after cancelling the South Stream subsea gas export pipeline project in December.
South Stream would have carried Russian gas across the Black Sea to Eastern Europe via a Bulgaria landfall, but was cancelled largely due to the pressure of sanctions on Russia because of its actions in Ukraine.
