With European and US sanctions banning the supply of offshore drilling equipment to Russia, representatives of Gazprom subsidiary Gazpromgeologorazvedka (GGR) are understood to have entered into direct talks with at least two offshore drilling contractors, including China’s Sinopec, informed sources said.
The rig currently being sought is understood to be intended initially for appraisal drilling in shallow waters, but could eventually be mobilised to join the Korea National Oil Company semi-submersible rig Doo Sung at the Kirinsky block for the drilling of development wells.
