The €100m ($143.4m) pilot plant, launched in 2006 and brought on line two years later, uses oxyfuel technology to capture carbon dioxide (CO2) — as pure as 99.7% — from the plant’s flue gas, compress it down to one 500th of its original volume and transfer it in liquid form onto special tanker trucks that shuttle it 350km to Gaz de France’s Altmark field for use in an enhanced gas- recovery project.
