The UK offshore sector started the year on the front foot when China’s CNOOC International confirmed it had made what is thought to be the largest natural gas discovery off the UK in the past 10 years, writes Rob Watts.

French partner Total estimates that Glengorm, in Block 22/21c-13 in the central North Sea, could hold recoverable resources of almost 250 million barrels of oil equivalent — a sizeable find, particularly for such a mature oil and gas region where the first volumes flowed more than 50 years ago.
