The block 248 A-3 subsea tree suffered damage on 26 August when an anchor chain from semi-submersible Noble Max Smith, which was de-mobilising from the field, struck a portion of the subsea hardware.

"While pulling anchors to de-mob the rig, which had completed operations on the A-3 well, electrical power and hydraulic pressure was lost," said a Shell spokesman.

"An ROV investigation confirmed that an anchor chain had damaged the hydraulic and electrical flying leads."
