Government appoints Liu Jian as new president of CNOOC

Liu’s appointment, made by the State Assets Supervision & Administration Commission of the State Council, puts an end to earlier suggestions that CNOOC vice president Wu Guangqi would take over the top role. The government was said to have decided against CNOOC’s initial proposal to nominate Wu as its president on the grounds his exploration and production experience was not broad enough.
