Activists dropped in, quite literally, on Total’s annual shareholders’ meeting 1 June to protest the French supermajor’s plans to drill in the mouth of the Amazon River off Brazil.
Four activists bearing placards dangled from ropes suspended above the stage during the assembly in the Palais des Congres, interrupting the day’s proceedings.
Greenpeace, which organised the protest with French activist group ANV-COP21, said the event drew around 250 protesters, including climbers who hung banners from the auditorium ceiling while Total chief executive Patrick Pouyanne looked on from below.
