SOUTH American neighbours Guyana and Suriname were sticking to their guns as talks started this week on a simmering border dispute that flared last weekend when Suriname's navy forced the removal of an oil rig from contested waters. While the two countries said before negotiations opened on the island of Trinidad that they were hoping to resolve the disagreement, both sides indicated that they would not give up their claims to the area in dispute.
