The Gye Nyame-1 wildcat was drilled to a depth of 3349 metres subsurface in 519 metres of water, finding substantial gas condensate sands with good reservoir characteristics, just a few kilo­metres from the Italian player’s earlier Sankofa-1A and 2 discoveries.

Joint development of Gye Nyame — which requires further delineation and appraisal — and Sankofa reserves would place gas-gathering infrastructure just 35 kilometres from Tullow Oil’s Jubilee field on the Deepwater Tano block, where the Ghana government already plans a $1 billion gas-monetisation development.
