The chief executive of Algeria’s state-run oil company Sonatrach, Abdelmoumene Ould Kaddour, has been sacked and replaced by the company’s upstream director, writes Nassir Shirkhani.

The move further deepens uncertainty for international oil companies amid ongoing political problems sweeping the North African country, which is a major gas supplier to Europe.

Interim president Abdelkader Bensalah appointed Sonatrach’s head of production and exploration Rachid Hachichi to replace Kaddour.
