Libya’s renegade general Khalifa Haftar kept up his military offensive against the capital Tripoli as the UN prepared to demand an immediate ceasefire.

Haftar's push on the capital threatens to further destabilise the oil-rich country and reignite a full-blown civil war. Both sides accuse each other of targeting civilians.

The chairman of Libya’s National Oil Corporation, Mustafa Sanallah, said that renewed fighting could “bring down” the country’s oil production of just over 1 million barrels per day.
