DONG Energy has cancelled an engineering, procurement and construction contract to build the topsides for its troubled Dkr12.1 billion ($1.819 billion) Hejre project in the Danish North Sea.

The decision has left the high-pressure, high-temperature scheme in a state of limbo.

Construction of the topsides is well advanced but, after a series of delays, Dong officials said matters reached a “tipping point” and it no longer has confidence in the ability of its contractors — Technip of France and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering of South Korea — to deliver.
