Whether an installation is designated as normally unmanned or permanently manned is described in its safety case, submitted by the operator to the UK’s Health & Safety Executive (HSE).
However, in offshore health and safety law, which is regulated by the HSE, there is no difference in safety requirements between an NUI and a manned facility.
As a result there is no legal definition of a NUI.
