US independent Hess is applying the final touches to new design work on a large production platform for the Equus project in Australia before inviting its selected contractor groups to bid for the construction contract.
Sources said a leading engineering house has been assisting Hess this year with the design of the planned semi-submersible production platform.
The US operator was keen to improve the design and hopefully generate reductions in structural weight and cost without compromising on safety and production.
