US operator Hilcorp has received a conditional approval from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) for its Liberty project off Alaska, writes Kathrine Schmidt.
Liberty is a proposed production facility mounted on a man-made island that would tap a promising light oil deposit near Prudhoe Bay.
Now that the BOEM has issued its Record of Decision on the company's development and production plan, Hilcorp will proceed to seek other permits for land construction and maintenance, drilling operations, oil response plans, production safety systems and safety and environmental management systems.
