Hopefuls pre-qualify for Rumaila plants package

AT LEAST four companies have been pre-qualified by BP and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) for a tender at Iraq’s Rumaila oilfield to take part in a tender that will probably take place next year for the first of up to seven giant processing plants.

Samsung Engineering, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, Petrofac and China Petroleum Engineering & Construction Company (CPECC) have been pre-qualified to bid for the plants, which will have a capacity of 450,000 barrels per day. Petrofac and CPECC were at one stage looking into putting in a joint bid.

There is speculation that Saipem, Foster Wheeler and Fluor Corporation are also on the list, with Foster Wheeler and Fluor possibly bidding together but this could not be confirmed.
