India has high hopes that industry heavyweights will start applying as early as this week for exploration acreage on offer in the first round of its Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP).

Companies including Shell, BP, ExxonMobil and Rosneft are seen as potential applicants alongside India’s own players, although the latter are seen as most likely bidders.

State-owned Oil & Natural Gas Corporation and Oil India Limited plus Verdanta (Cairn India) are in the frame, according to local sources.
