News of the notice from the UK’s Health & Safety Executive (HSE) came in the same week as a public relations gaff in which the rig owner termed 2010 as its “best year in safety performance”, despite the Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico last April, which claimed 11 lives.
The safety notice from the HSE, covering failures in the verification schemes for the company’s 10 drilling units off the UK, was served on 28 January but only made public this week.
