Calgary-based Husky Energy could face environmental charges from both the Saskatchewan provincial and Canadian federal governments after a major pipeline leak near its Lloydminster heavy oil refining centre caused an oil spill into the North Saskatchewan River.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing and if charges are laid Husky could face fines of up to C$1 million (US$780,000) for every day the spills remained uncontrolled and up to three years in prison.
