The field's gas remains untapped although a C$2.35 billion ($1.7 billion) scheme to exploit the its oil via a floating production, storage and offloading vessel is already under way and this project is due on stream in 2006.
Significant quantities of gas almost 3 trillion cubic feet have been found in the White Rose area and, if commercially and technically exploitable, this could form the basis of natural gas business in the east Canadian province.
