The study is examining the manufacturing, handling, transport, storage and re-gasification of NGH. According to Gerwick executive Dale Berner, hydrates -- also referred to as gas-to-solids -- promise to be a safer alternative for transporting stranded gas reserves at lower cost.
The concept is not new. Chevron looked at the technology as early as the mid-1970s. Other operators like BG and Woodside Petroleum have also evaluated hydrates.
