Chief operating officer of the company’s offshore division, Kim Jong Do, says the trend is especially evident in the North Sea, where every central processing platform tendered last year was heavier and of higher value than before. “A few years back, big meant 10,000 tonnes, but now it refers to 20,000 tonnes,” Kim says. Tonnage has increased due to enlarged production capacities, increased production life up to 40 years, and higher health, safety and environment standards, Kim explains, adding that the value of individual contracts has doubled to about $1 billion.
