India’s Shipping Ministry has issued guidelines that would allow liquefied natural gas floating storage and regasification units to be deployed at major port trusts not controlled by central government, writes Amanda Battersby.

Privately-funded FSRU projects will need to apply via a single-stage electronic tender process for a land lease, and successful applicants would typically be granted a 30-year contract.

"FSRUs within port limits offer a low-risk, fast-track and flexible option compared to traditional onshore LNG terminals,” the ministry said.
