Indonesia is home to South-East Asia’s largest unexploited gas reserves, but a lack of regulatory, contractual and fiscal certainty against the backdrop of depressed commodity prices has conspired to delay and derail some of the country’s proposed mega-projects.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo has announced plans to add 35,000 megawatts of power generation capacity by 2019. Coal would account for 60% of the total, but this will still require large volumes of new gas supplies.
