A delegation of oil executives from the Africa Energy Chamber took time off in the Senegal capital Dakar last weekend to tour the famous heritage site of Goree, a huge slave holding facility built in the 16th Century and active until France abolished slavery in 1848.

Placed on the World Heritage list by the United Nations Education, Science & Culture Organisation (UNESCO) in 1978, Goree serves to remind the world that “slavery was a sin and a crime against humanity,” said African Chamber chair and Equatoguinean oil attorney N J Ayuk.
