Njoroge said Tullow Oil may recover about 600 million barrels of oil in the South Lokichar basin, with the government likely to send this overseas from Mombasa for refining once commercial production begins from 2020.
Several oil export pipeline routes have been tabled in recent months, although Kenya recently agreed with Uganda — which will build a refinery supplied by oil in the Lake Albert area — to run a line from Hoima via Lokichar to Lamu, for which an additional spur line may be required to route Kenyan oil to Mombasa.
