Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani, facing widespread protests over his handling of the economy amid rising inflation and a deteriorating currency, promised Iranians his government would be able to cope with pressure arising from renewed US sanctions, writes Nassir Shirkhani.

His comments came as the US government pressured buyers of Iranian oil to completely cease their purchases by a 4 November deadline by US President Donald Trump, who tore up Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal in May.
