Iran claims it is losing critical quantities of gas from the super-giant South Pars field to neighbouring Qatar, which started exploiting the reservoir, called the North Dome on the Qatari side, much earlier to become the world’s leading exporter of liquefied natural gas.
The loss of gas through migration is 50% in the case of Iran’s Phase 12 development, which is about to reach a full production capacity of 3 billion cubic feet per day of gas and 120,000 barrels per day of condensate, according to Mahmoud Javadian, drilling manager of Petropars, the state company in charge of the project.
