THE long-running nuclear talks between Iran and the major powers were coming to a climax this week, with most observers in the west increasingly optimistic that there would be an agreement before the weekend.
A timely nuclear deal would prevent a lengthy review of the agreement by the US Congress, reducing the opportunities for outside political intervention, and opening the way for energy sanctions to be relaxed as of next month.
