Joko makes a good start in shaking up Indonesia's sluggish oil and gas scene

Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo had pledged he will tackle the issues that have plagued the country’s upstream industry and, within weeks, the wheels of bureaucracy have sped up.

Joko has appointed a former Corruption Eradication Commission senior official to head up the graft-ridden upstream regulator SKK Migas.

The Ministry of Energy & Mineral Resources also seems to have bucked its usual tardy trend, announcing that operator Pertamina will be given a new contract for its Offshore North West Java (ONWJ) block, which is not due to expire until 2017.
