The operating consortium could drill as early as the end of the year on South Saubi, where water depths are between 700 and 1000 metres.
Partner Mitsubishi earlier said that exploration drilling was expected to target a large-scale oil prospect.
This will require a different rig from that already being sought for TSB, where water depths are around 90 metres.
Seven drilling companies have pre-qualified for the contract to drill up to five wells on the TSB gas fields, a campaign now set to start in the second quarter of 2017.
